Visa Types

You can usually apply for a medical treatment visa for Germany in two ways: with a Schengen Visa Type C or a National Visa Type D.

Which visa type should you choose?

The main difference between these two visa types is the allowed length of stay:

The Schengen Visa Type C permits a stay of up to 90 days. If your treatment is expected to be completed within this period, we recommend applying for this visa type.

The National Visa Type D is issued for stays longer than 90 days. If your treatment is expected to last

more than 90 days, we recommend applying for this visa type. The exact duration of stay is determined based on documents provided by your treating physician and the planned length of treatment.
